You may have come across our claims at one point that FAS sunglasses are all unisex. But looking through our Instagram feed and the images we regram of women wearing our sunglasses, this may be hard to believe.
Even though the majority of our customers and followers are—unsurprisingly—female, the team here at For Art’s Sake does believe that each frame is able to suit both males and females. The stereotype that cat-eye frames are more ‘feminine’ (what would be its ‘masculine’ counterpart? Aviators?) is a constructed notion. Although it is true that cat-eye frames tend to flatter women’s faces more so than men’s, gender really does not have much to do with it so much as it is about size and shape.
We did this quick shoot with Ryan, a male model we recently worked with (with very distinct ‘masculine’ facial features, may we add—you could cut someone on that jawline!), in order to make a point. At the end of the day, if you are a man and you think a cat-eye suits you, you should just go for it! And if you don’t like that style, then don’t! We believe you should be able to wear whatever you like and think suits you, regardless of gender stereotypes and expectations.
We’re here to honour your style. You just do you.
